Projection Mapping
This project was created for my Projection Mapping class, where we designed and animated visuals to be projected onto a building using BARCO projectors. The piece explored trompe l’oeil techniques to make the animations appear as if they were coming off the wall. The final event showcased our work on the Ringling College Academic Center, highlighting the projectors’ creative potential for design and animation.
After completing the projection, I repurposed the 3D scene into a lighting and look development study, experimenting with key lighting, rim accents, and color treatments to further elevate the visual mood.

BEHIND THE ANIMATION
Designing with trompe l’oeil was definitely not an easy task, but it was incredibly rewarding once I figured it out. The main challenge came from working with the building’s existing perspective and learning how to make the trompe l’oeil illusion truly convincing.
Designing with trompe l’oeil was definitely not an easy task, but it was incredibly rewarding once I figured it out. The main challenge came from working with the building’s existing perspective and learning how to make the trompe l’oeil illusion truly convincing.

To make the illusion work, the camera had to be placed exactly where the audience for the BARCO event would be seated, ensuring the correct perspective for the trompe l’oeil effect. As shown in the preview render above, this vantage point was designed to be the most effective, since viewing it from other angles would break the illusion.
